Coffee morning advance notice

Just to give you advance notice of a planned coffee (tea, water, diluting orange!) morning to raise funds for Action Cancer as part of my bike ride.

The coffee morning is scheduled for Saturday 14th April 2007 from 10am to 2pm at my house at 9 Woodlands, Ballygarvey Road, Broughshane.

You'll be very pleased to hear that I won't be baking any tray bakes for the event so it'll be safe to eat whatever is placed afore you. I look forward to your support.

If you're coming from the Cushendall Road, come right to the end of the Ballygarvey Road and just before the junction there's an entrance to a housing development of white houses...that's Woodlands.

Coming from Broughshane village turn on to the Knockan Road, drive past the Community Centre (on your right) and take the first road on your left (the Ballygarvey Road) and Woodlands is immediately on your right.

Come up in the cul-de-sac and you'll hopefully see a pile of cars annoying the neighbours! Come on in, get a fine cup of whatever and don't forget your wallet!

Training so far...

Training is going well so far. I've extended my route now to include the Grove Road, Woodtown Road, Cullybackey Road into Cullybackey and on round to Ahoghill, Galgorm Road, Broughshane Road and back to Woodlands. Not quite 20 miles (28.8 km), but managed it in 1 hour 20 minutes. Endurance and not speed is the name of the game. My dad has put the pressure on by reminding me that in his heyday he and his mates would regularly head off on their non-mountain bike, no gears bicycles down to Carnlough, round to Larne, up over Shane's Hill to 'Vogie and home! So I've a wee bit to go yet.

Think I'll leave it a day or two though before tackling the Carnlough/Larne/Broughshane route!

Thanks to those who have donated so far. You've been particularly generous. Ta.

I'll warn you now...the Guardian is having a wee feature on my charity bike ride...buy your copy early; they could sell out!
